ISSUE 20 - VOL 3
Our featured article in this issue is on the proposed Trans Tasman Harmonisation. On 10 December 2003, the Australian and NZ governments signed an agreement to establish a joint regulatory scheme to regulate medicines (including natural health and wellness products). This article discusses the ramifications if this proposal was to be accepted by the NZ Parliament (the initial proposal has been rejected since going to print).
The feature in this issue is on FEET and includes an in-depth look at Reflexology which includes the history and various theories on the development of Reflexology to-date. We also look at Vertical Reflex Therapy, foot patches and foot baths using mineral salts and microcurrent technology, and Podiatrists Richard and Julie report on alternative footwear and magnetic insoles for people presenting with diabetes.
Other featured articles include ‘From Cop to Consciousness’, ‘The Hierarchy of Emotions’, and ‘Homeopathy Listens’. Our article on behalf of the Gyuto monks this quarter looks at ‘The Treatment of Ignorance’ from a Tibetan perspective. We investigate the founding principles of Naturopathy including the healing power of nature, identification and treatment of the cause of disease, the guiding principle ‘First Do No Harm’, the practitioner educating the patient to take more responsibility for their health, treating the ‘whole’ person, and practicing preventative methods to achieve good health.
We look at drugs from two different perspectives. The first is an article on Ice (crystal meth) which highlights the shocking increase in the use of this drug and its effects. The second article is about Barry, a man who quits drugs for freedom. And don’t miss our piece on Laughter Yoga. Yes – you may well laugh, but you will laugh a lot harder when you learn about how laughter benefits health – from creating endorphins (natural painkillers in the body), to easing pain, lowering stress levels, and building up the immune system.
