Dancing Girl is a brave narrative movie. Documenting the lives of a mother
(Sally) and her two daughters (Emma and Bonnie) over a six year period of their lives, the movie captures amazing emotional vulnerability and truth, which is at times confronting, and at other times simply revealing and inspiring. Just the fact that these women have agreed to expose themselves to the camera during some very difficult periods of their lives, engenders respect for their willingness to do this, and then further respect for their frankness and honesty. Certainly the ability of the three women to keep communicating with each other as they each go through incredible adversity, to continue to think about how and why life is affecting them and what they can do about this, and to (eventually) communicate their feelings with each other, personally filled me with immense admiration.
