Radical Gratitude

At the age of five, author Andrew Bienkowski was banished to Siberia with his family. During one of the long, cold winters, with very little food availabe, his grandfather chose to starve himself to death to enable his family to survive. Even after leaving Siberia and spending a year in an Iranian refugee camp, Andrew nearly died from dysentery, malaria and malnutrition due to lack of food. However, he shows us that his survival was greatly influenced by events and ‘miracles’ that occurred around him and to his family. The unexpected kindness of strangers and the beauty of the natural landscape, left an indelible imprint on his childhood experiences which forever altered his approach to life. Ultimately, becoming a psychotherapist gave him the opportunity to devote his life to helping others.
